MESSAGE
FROM
COACH GRAHOVAC
Last season, the
Lancers Varsity Baseball Team finished 19-10 and 9-6
in the Empire League and finished second in the
league standings.
The 2006 Lancers Baseball team continued it’s
tradition of sending players to college by
sending players Taylor Krick (Long Beach State),
Kevin Craik (Point Loma Univ.), Paul Deese
(Chapman University), Ryan Hall (Chapman
University), and Cole Hockenberry (Goldenwest
College) to college baseball programs.
The 2007 Lancer Baseball team has a strong core
of returning players that look to compete for
the first title of the newly formed Trinity
League. On the mound, Orange Lutheran returns
All-League Pitcher Daniel Renken who went 8-4
last season and has already signed to play next
year at Cal State Fullerton. With Renken,
Seniors Justin Lambert, Juniors Gerrit Cole,
Aaron Gates, James Munoz, and Brandon Maurer
give the pitching staff the depth and experience
to have a great season.
The 2007 Orange Lutheran lineup should be strong
as it returns all-league players: first
baseman/catcher Andrew Jarvi and 2nd team
all-leaguers Jonathan Kline and Brett Wallach.
With the help of other returning players like
Seniors Daniel Gray, Jimmy Sandford, Billy
Vinovich and Juniors Aaron Gates and Gerrit
Cole, the offense looks to provide a lot of
excitement in 2007.
Newcomers like Juniors Tyler Smith, Michael
Springer and sophomores Robby Vaughn and Clay
Craft give the 2007 baseball team depth and
talent to make the upcoming season one to
remember.
Special thanks go out to all parents, school
administrators and staff members, coaches, and
alumni that make Orange Lutheran Baseball
successful in developing talented players by
giving each player the knowledge and resources
that they need to become their best.
Make sure to come by Hart Park this season and
help cheer the 2007 varsity baseball team to
victory.
THANK YOU!!
COACH GRAHOVAC

HEAD COACH MIKE
GRAHOVAC
Coach Mike Grahovac begins
his second year at Orange Lutheran. Prior to
coming to OLHS, he spent eight years in law
enforcement. Before his career in law
enforcement, Coach Grahovac served as
pitching coach at Orange Coast Community
College for six years, where he developed
several pitchers and catchers. He assisted
in their progress and helped them to move on
to Div. I, II and NAIA colleges. Coach
Grahovac has also assisted several players
in being drafted into professional baseball.
Coach Grahovac served as a pitching coach in
Fairbanks, Alaska, which is considered one
of the premier summer collegiate leagues.
While in Fairbanks, he coached current big
league players, Michael Young (Texas Rangers
All-Star Shortstop), Jason Lane (Houston
Astros), and Jason Phillips (former starting
catcher for the LA Dodgers).
After playing baseball at Foothill High
School, Coach Grahovac continued his
baseball career at Chapman University, where
he served as team captain for 3 years, was
named team MVP in 1988, and voted all-league
as a sophomore and junior. In 1989, the San
Francisco Giants drafted Mike in the 4th
round of the MLB draft. Coach Grahovac
played four years of professional baseball
before his career ended abruptly due to an
arm injury.
Coach Grahovac graduated from Chapman
University with a degree in Movement and
Exercise Science and attended Azusa Pacific
University where he received his Master’s
Degree in Education. He currently teaches
Health at Lutheran High School in addition
to his duties as Head Baseball Coach.
“We are building a tradition here at
Lutheran High School that no other schools
can compare to. Prior to my arrival on the
OLU campus, the program was pushed in the
right direction and I am just trying to push
us to the next level. We are entering the
newly formed Trinity League and all of our
players in the Lancer baseball program have
been working extra hard to succeed both in
the classroom and on the field. I enjoy
being here at Lutheran High School, leading
these fine young men to be better
individuals overall. The Trinity League will
be very competitive throughout the year and
we look forward to competing against the
very best in the county. We feel we can
compete against anybody.”
